Adventures in Yard Sales

It's literally been years since I have posted to this blog. What can I say? Life happens. I decided to resurrect the blog because hubby & I have decided to have a YARD SALE. This is a first. My husband has owned the Grand Rivers Elementary School building and property since the school consolidated and the little children moved out a few years back. Since that time we have been slowly filling it up with accumulated stuff. Life happens.

I also own a small "side" business in which I do contract embroidery, rhinestoning, sublimation, and vinyl lettering. I call it my hobby that ran amuk. At any rate, I have, over the years purchased many, many samples and "good deals" that have piled up. Several seasons I have had some "really good ideas" and thought it would be fun to sell my wares at a festival or event. I usually bring most of the items that I have designed, home with me at the end of the event as I always seem to over estimate how much will sell, how much I need to "do up" for the event. :-(

So...it's finally time for our first ever YARD SALE in the Grand Rivers Elementary Gym building. We've settled on the weekend of the Grand Rivers Hunters Moon Festival, both Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon. I'll do my best to chronicle this adventure for future reference in case I ever have another yard sale idea and need a reminder, ha!

Here's an idea of some of the new things you can expect. For CALDWELL COUNTY, there are a number of TIGERS apparel in both rhinestones and beautiful shiny foil on royal blue shirts. Some of them are just for Tiger Mom's too! I have some really cool guys shirts for Caldwell County in sizes SM - XXL. I will be running all of the school spirit apparel at 1/2 off. I have school spirit apparel for CALDWELL COUNTY, LYON COUNTY & LIVINGSTON COUNTY.

I'll post more photos and lists as I get ready for this big YARD SALE event...keep tuned in this week for updates. So far I can tell you...we're putting in a lot of hours to get this big event ready, and we have a lot of good "stuff" to sell. The school gym is the perfect place to have this yard sale, rain or shine.

Another Day In Paradise

Another day in paradise. My own little chunk of the world located in Western Kentucky. I am constantly amazed that such a place exists in the middle of "nowhere". Green Turtle Bay in Grand Rivers, Kentucky.

We have satellite and have had cable for years and years. I know what life is like in other parts of the US. I've been to the Caribbean. Now that's a beautiful place. The colors are what get to me. The bluest blues, the greenest greens and painted houses in hues of the rainbow. But back to the story. I used to sob and feel sorry for myself, "stuck" here in the middle of a culturally barren land (so I thought then). I now know that this was God's vision for me, the perfect, secure, beautiful place for me. And I am grateful. And I am so blessed by His awesome foresight for my life.

The houses aren't painted here, but the sky can be really blue and the clouds can be white and puffy on a summer day. The boats on the water coming and going, some from as far away as Austrailia and France, Germany have passed through here on their way to southern parts. So many really nice people from all over the world have been on this property. It's really amazing.
When I see what is going on in the world, I am really, really grateful to be here. I love this community and the "smallness" of it while the "bigness" still touches the world via the waterway. I can sit here and view the world from my snug little harbor. I feel cradled in God's hand. I know that sounds sappy, but I do feel that way today. Now, check back with me in a few months when we are busy, busy, busy and I might feel a bit differently, stressed and hurried. But right now, today, it's off-season, slow, and wintery and I'm enjoying the quiet time.
